Twelve Story Workout (2015)

Building 93 at Kings Park Psychiatric Center — Kings Park, NY

Urbexing can be quite a workout – lugging around photo equipment while wrapped up in protective gear, struggling to breath through a water-vapor drenched respirator as you climb to the upper floors. Here we see one of the many staircases on the way to the top. You can always tell patient units from staff units by whether or not there is anti-suicide fencing on the staircases.

Be sure to check out my friend Amanda’s images from this shoot Part 1: here and Part 2 here.

  1. I wouldn’t have thought about the protective gear or breathing equipment, but now that I think about it, must be plenty of stuff you don’t wish to inhale there. Love your photo journeys.

    • Thank you my friends…yes, most all the places I visit have, at the very least, mold, lead and asbestos – which is why they have not been torn down or repurposed – remediation is just too expensive.
