Pump Me Up (2015)


St. Nicholas Coal Breaker — Mahanoy, Pennsylvania

Coal breakers used a tremendous amount of water in the processing of anthracite…approximately 25 tons of water were used per ton of finished coal. The Menzie cone separators needed huge pumps to maintain the 8,200 gallons of water per minute required for their operation.
