The Northern Plains — Keota, Colorado

Roanoke Ave. in downtown Keota – The town was established as a homestead in 1880 by two sisters, Mary and Eva Beardsley but never had more than 150 residents. In 1888 it was sold to the Lincoln Land and Cattle Co. The railroad (used mainly for cattle shipping and delivery of fresh water) was abandoned and the trackage removed in 1975…

    Roanoke Ave. is not a a name to conjure up sustained and prosperous community dwellings. They might as well have named the town Usher or Innsmouth.
