Island Grove Regional Park — Greeley, Colorado

Call it the Greeley Spud Rodeo, Greeley Independence Stampede, Rocky Mountain Stampede or just Greeley Stampede; this two-week event happens around the July 4th holiday, drawing close to 500,000 people from all over the United States.

Braddock Avenue — Braddock, Pennsylvania

Braddock’s industrial economy began in 1873 when Andrew Carnegie built the Edgar Thomson Steel Works here.  However the town lost its importance with the collapse of the steel industry in the United States  which  coincided with the crack cocaine epidemic of the early 1980s.  The combination of these two woes nearly destroyed the community and in 1988, Braddock was designated a financially distressed municipality.  From its peak in the 1920s, the Braddock has lost 90% of its population.
