Mourning Becomes Electric (2013)

Morning Sun on the Production Floor (2013)

Montgomery Company — Windsor Locks, Connecticut

Montgomery started out orginally producing cotton yarns, but they discovered that a flat thread of metal that gave glitter to dresses in the 1920s could also be used as a conductor. Before the company left the canal bank in 1989, it made a type of flat wire so lightweight that it was the choice for electrical systems of aircraft and spaceships.

Restroom at The Montgomery Company — Windsor Locks, Connecticut

Detail of a small element from the company washroom. How many times was this used in the course of a day and why didn’t anybody  care enough to mount it squarely on the wall? I find it interesting that they thought it necessary to add the ampersand conjunction to the instructions.

Let's Go Boating (2013)

Montgomery Company — Windsor Locks, Connecticut

An abandoned boat lies inside one of the fire damaged buildings on the site. Since its closing in 1989, there have been three significant arson fires at the mill – not only causing large amounts of damage on their own, but opening the remaining structures up to the ravages of the elements.
